A study by CyberSource Corp. found that websites providing four or more payment methods other than credit cards had a sales conversion rate 12 percent higher than those offering just one online payment option in addition to credit cards.

In other words, the more online payment options you offer, the more online payment processing you’ll do on your site and the more money you’ll make.

Here are the online payment options you could offer on your site:

1) Credit card processing

If you were only going to offer one online payment option to prospective buyers, (which I strongly discourage!) this would be the one to choose. Credit cards are still the most popular way to pay for goods and services online.

To set up credit card processing on your website, (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover), you need to get an Internet merchant account.

With the advent of university top-up fees, student life doesn’t come cheap for today’s overworked undergraduates. But the power of the internet offers up a number of ingenious ways to generate some extra beer money from the comfort of your own home. Here are ten of the best.

1. Social networking

It might seem like nothing more than a pipe dream but making money as you trawl through profiles of friends, prospective and ex boyfriends and girlfriends is actually a reality. Yuwie, an upstart social networking enterprise, offers to pay its users as they increase the page impressions of their public profiles, upload photos to share and refer others to join in the fun. All of this is achieved by a proportionate payment structure that sees around half of the website’s advertising revenue – its chief source of income – distributed directly to its user base.

Admittedly it’s still early days but with around half a million registrations to date and no shortage of testimonials, Yuwie looks like the real deal.

By Joe Whyte

One of the most interesting link development techniques unveiled itself to me today. Many link developers and SEOs might be a little upset at me that such a great technique is not being used privately for my own gain but in my mind I fell I should share this with the SEO community as I really doubt  anyone else knows about this.

If you didn’t know, .edu backlinks are pretty darn coveted due to the high trust rank they have within Google. Most edu sites have quality inbound links, have been online for years and years and are a credible source of information to the search engines and to the community. At SEOmoz rand has a page strength tool that measures .edu links as well and assigns a particular value to how many you have coming into your site. It is safe to say that a .edu is a power link and can do a lot for your site within the search engines.

Blogging For Business

By John Jantsch

If Howard Dean’s failed political campaign accomplished anything, I would say that it brought to the mainstream the use of something called a weblog or “blog” as it known in cyberspace.

A blog is really nothing more than a diary uploaded to the Internet and until about the last 12 months was the realm of the individual who saw it as a way to publish there random (and sometimes disturbed) thoughts. The great thing about weblogs, and the growing set of software that is being created to publish them, is that they are a tremendous business tool.

Weblogs allow you to create content and contact…and that is what your clients crave more than anything.

Keyword Research

Keyword research is valuable because it’s a way to learn how your users search for information. Keyword research can also give you a better understanding of the subject your website will be about.
When doing keyword research there are a few basic ideas to understand:

  • Singular vs. Plural—Search engines and keyword research tools handle singular and plural terms differently.
Apple will return different search results than Apples. Understand how your research tool displays and reports singular and plural terms.
  • Word Order and Prominence—The order of the words that are typed into a search box matters, as does the order of the words on a page.
Macaroni and cheese has slightly different results than cheese and macaroni.
Some keyword tools will always list words in alphabetical order, something you should be aware of when doing your research.
  • Head Keywords—Head keywords are usually short one or two word concepts that can have a wide range of meanings. They have a high volume of searches, but the variety of possible meanings makes it difficult to know what the user was actually searching for.
An example of head keyword would be golf. Was the searcher looking for shoes, clubs or places to play golf?
  • Long Tail Keywords—These are multiple keywords (at least four or five words). These keywords are very specific and signal a clear intent on the users part.
An example of tail keyword would be Mens black Nike golf shoes.
  • There is a wide range of keywords falling between the head and tail.
