More traffic free Many people think that having a good website is all you need to get tons of visitors. Wrong answer. Getting traffic to your site takes hard work and diligence and is not accomplished overnight. Think about it this way – how are people supposed to know where to find your site if you don’t tell them? You must advertise. Here are some proven ways to advertise your site without spending [much] money:

OK, I DID EVERYTHING YOU SAY ON THIS PAGE BUT MY SITE STILL DOES NOT SHOW ON GOOGLE, YAHOO ETC. WHY NOT!!??

No one knows exactly how many sites there are on the whole of the internet but there are millions! And thousands more are being added every day! Let’s say, you run a bakery. You bake for diabetics. A search on Google showed the following results:

Search for

Google results

bakery

24,500,000

diabetic bakery

84,000

diabeticbakery

1,500,00

“diabetic bakery”

1,360

diabetic-bakery biscuits

1,110

diabetic bakery biscuits cheesecake toffee

708

The chances of your brand new website featuring anywhere in the list for the keyword “bakery” are infinitesimally small – that means you have NO CHANCE of your site featuring anywhere near the top in a search.

OK, great. So how do you get your site to show on Google?

Firstly, don’t try to compete with a keyword “bakery” – as one in 24.5 million, you don’t stand a chance.

Think “phrases” instead of “words“. Look at the table above; as you add more words to the search, you get less results. If your page(s) contain the words “diabetic bakery biscuits cheesecake toffee” in a sentence like this for example:”Our diabetic bakery specializes in biscuits, cheesecake, toffee and breads”

Use similar wording in your TITLE as well as DESCRIPTION tags

Remember, a search engine cannot read pictures on your site. Even if they are very descriptive. Your text must say it all. Search engines index text.

Your page rank is critical. The site that ranks #1 on Google for “bakery” has a very high page rank and that’s why it is #1. Page rank is a VAST subject and it is not possible to cover it in any detail in a few paragraphs. If you want to know more about Page Rank, here are some handy links:

So how much page rank is good and how much is bad?

Basically, the higher your page rank is, the more the search engines will favor the text on your site when people search them for those words. (It’s actually a lot more than just that but for the purposes of this example, it’s close enough). Obviously, you should have as high a page rank on your site as possible with 10 being the highest you get. Generally, anything above a 3 or a 4 is considered good. A page rank above 6 is very good and 7 or 8 is exceptional.

It is important to understand that page rank is NOT linear but logarithmic. (Actually only Google knows the real formula as it is a closely guarded secret). It works something like this:

Page Rank

Actual ranking

0

No one has ever heard of you.

1

very low

2

very low

3

low in top 100,000,000

4

moderate in top 10,000,000

5

In the top 1,000,000

6

In the top 100,000

7

In the top 10,000

8

In the top 1,000

9

In the top 100

10

One of the top 10 sites period!

From the above, you can see that there is a vast difference between page rank 3 and 4 or between 4 and 5. As your site moves up in rank, so the competition becomes more fierce. For example, if you have a page rank of 6 you may be one of the top 100,000 sites. To get to a rank of 7, you need to be one of the top 10,000 sites. To have a page rank of 8 would mean you are one of the top 1,000 sites (in the whole world remember) – a huge difference.

AUTOMATED SUBMISSION SOFTWARE AND “WE SUBMIT TO 1,000,000 SEARCH ENGINES FOR $25? COMPANIES

Personally speaking, these are a bust and don’t work. Don’t waste you money. There is a simple reason why these “automated” and paid options don’t work – Category Targeting.Put very simply, Category Targeting is all about submitting your site to the right categories in the rightsearch engines and directories. For example, say you have a site on Corvettes. At one search engine, they may only have a category for Cars. However, at another one, there may be a sub-category from cars called Sports Cars. Only you would know to submit your site to the Sports Cars category — automated software or someone else would simply bang it into cars and sports car enthusiasts would never see you link let alone click on it!Another example would be the description you give your site in one place may be entirely different to the one you choose in another.

For example, on a Teen Centered link engine you may use words like funky, neato, boss, ppl, cu, l8r, 4u, and so on to describe your site because it’s part of the language teens use. On an O-So-Serious search engine catering mostly for retired folk you would not dare use these words because no one would understand you! Automated software simply cannot do this!

There is absolutely no benefit if your site is in 1,000,000 search engines but no one clicks anyway. It must say the right stuff and it must be in the right category. As the person who creates the site only you have the knowledge to do this right. Don’t waste your money on automated software submission software. It doesn’t work.

BUY TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE

There are thousands of sites out there that will sell you hits to your website. The big ones you may know are Google, and Overture etc. However, these are mostly overpriced as they work on a bidding system where you bid against others on keywords. For example, if you type “Christian Web Hosting” on Googleyou get all those links on the right and the top. These are paid advertising links. Every time you click a link, the advertiser pays … up to $50.00 for a click! I don’t know about you but I certainly won’t pay that kind of money for a click. The more “valuable” the word or phrase, the more you have to bid in order to get your site near the top. Crazy huh? Then you get the smaller advertisers. These are usually small companies or individuals that run some kind of paid advertising scheme. In my opinion, this is where you will get the best value for money. But beware, some are good and some are outright crooks! Be very careful!Examples of this kind of advertising include those who sell you paid niche market indices, pop-under ads, pop-up ads, pay per click ads, banner adds and redirected traffic. From experience, we have found only some of them are worth it. The rest are dodgy investments at best.niche market indicesThere are several Christian sites — big and small — offering this kind of advertising for a price. Shop around to find the best one for you. They come in two flavors:

Pay per click

Pay per month/year etc. (Recommended if the site has qualified traffic and enough hits).

Pay per veiws

Pay per month is obviously much easier to budget for as your cost is fixed but it will depend on how much traffic a site gets. You may find the one better than the other. It’s very much a trial and error thing and you have to try it for a month with a given advertiser to see which works best. We offer this type of [button/banner] advertising on some of our high traffic sites here.

This kind of advertising, is often the best since you will be drawing your visitors from a source that is related to your site. For example, advertising your yacht business from a banner on a large yachting message board will guarantee your visitors are mostly yacht enthusiasts. (It’s unlikely you will sell any yachts on a skate boarding site)

pop-under and pop-up advertising

Don’t! As simple as that. Don’t do it. Most Browsers these days block Pop-Ups so it has become a pretty useless form of advertising.

redirected traffic

A relatively new development is redirected traffic reselling. How it works is that people buy up old domain names — sometimes by the thousands. These are all kinds of domains. For example, companies that went bust, old websites that were abandon by the original owners etc etc. These domains still get traffic simply because they are listed in the search engines and they come up from time to time when people search for certain words.

You go to a company or individual who bought a whole bunch of these domains and they set them up to redirect the traffic that would have gone to the old domain to your site instead. In principle this is a great idea but in practice it’s a failure. Don’t buy this kind of traffic.

Why not? You ask. Simple – you have no idea what kind of traffic is being sent you you. Let’s say you have a site which sells second hand antique furniture. What value would traffic intended for a manufacturing company specializing in the manufacture of rocket fuel have for you? No matter how many rocket fuel visitors you get, it is highly unlikely any would be interested in your furniture. Traffic must be targeted if it is to be of value.

“Social Networking” sites

I put this in quotes because this would include everything from YouTube to Twitter to the mega blogging sites and everything in between. All good and all will generate some hits, just be careful not to overdo it: getting yourself banned on YouTube or your blog about your website on BlogSpot is so obviously an ad doesn’t help. People want information, not more ads; we all get them up to our eyeballs on radio and TV every day. Be informative, give information but don’t advertise.

General Warning: Regardless of which type of traffic you buy or use, be very careful of who you get it from. There are several companies and individuals out there who will send you thousands of unique IP address hits to your site (which you can verify in your logs), but no one will ever see your page/s! There are several techniques for doing this and you could easily be caught. (Some of the techniques involve things like opening your whole page in a 1 * 1 pixel window for example. You get the unique hit but no one saw your page … not unless they had x-ray vision like superman!)

What works best?

It depends on several factors — your site, the sellers site and many more. Fixed text link and fixed banner advertising are always the best. Why do I say that? Two reasons:

Because you are not only getting the traffic from the sellers site but you are also getting a fixed link from the sellers site. This cannot be over emphasized. This will boost your ranking in all the major search engines and will do so for as long as your link/banner is on the sellers site. If the seller’s site is highly ranked in the search engines, your site will benefit greatly! Read what Google has to say about this here.

Conversely, when the link to your site is in JavaScript (most do it this way), you may get the clicks but you benefit nothing from the page rank of the site referring to your site. (And I would argue that this back-link, as it is called, is more important)

Provided you have some means of knowing how much traffic the page gets your banner/link is on it is also the safest form of advertising — you can go to the sellers site anytime to see your link or banner. With any of the other methods, you have no guarantees at all that anyone even went to your site.

Bottom line: You get what you pay for. If someone is offering you 100,000 hits for $25.00, think carefully before you spend your money because that is a price that is way too low and it might just be a scam. For pop-up/pop-under advertising (which you should never use!) expect to pay around $0.01 to $0.10 per page view and for banner advertising in the same order for monthly advertising and $0.20 and up for click through advertising.

RECIPROCAL LINKS

You put a link on your site to mine and I’ll put one on my site to yours. Sounds fair doesn’t it? Ha! but there’s a catch! What if you are an honest Joe like me and believe the person on the other side is honest and you do your bit by adding the link to the other guys site but … back at the ranch …

S/he never adds the reciprocal link back to you. You’ve been had!
OR

S/he sends you and email saying “here’s the page with your link …” but the page with your link is not linked from anywhere else on this person’s site! You get it? Your link is on the other site but the page it is on can never be found on that site … you’ve been scammed!
OR

S/he waits for 2 weeks then removes your link but you still link to him/her. Scammed again!

Reciprocal links are great and work very well because of the way search engines rank sites. However, they are open to abuse. Use with caution and be sure you grasp what is written above before blindly jumping onto the reciprocal link bandwagon.

HOW OFTEN TO SUBMIT

Once you have submitted your site to a search engine be sure you find out from the FAQ’s listed (sometimes) on that particular Search engines site, as to how it works. For example:

Some search engines will automatically drop your listing after a preset time. Others won’t.

Some search engines will penalize (even permanently ‘ban’ your site) if you re-submit it too often.

Bottom Line – make sure you find out these things about the search engine you are submitting to and then comply with their rules.

WHERE NOT TO SUBMIT TO

Be aware and focused on who your target audience is. If you have a site on the merits of paper recycling you are far more likely to find a receptive audience with the earth lovers than with the trucking union!Be selective of where you submit your site to. For example, don’t submit your Windows MS Access site to a MYSQL forum. All you will get is a lot of rude replies telling you how lame Access is! Often Website owners neglect to take this very important aspect into consideration – you are likely to do more harm than good to yourself and your website by submitting it to inappropriate places.

GRAMMAR/SPELLING

Makwe shutre youk spll corrgrtly!! A page full of obvious typos won’t get you far. With all the spell checkers out there these days, there is no excuse for poor spelling. But spelling is only one part of the problem. The other major part is grammar. Carefully read the two sentences below. Both are identical except for the placement of a single comma; and they have t-o-t-a-l-l-y different meanings:

Here lies my dearly departed Martha. In heaven she is, not in hell, this I know well.

Here lies my dearly departed Martha. In heaven she is not, in hell, this I know well.

While on the subject of spelling and grammar, don’t forget that English is not spelt (or spoken) the same all over the world. There is a vast difference between American English and British English spelling for example. It is not really important which spelling you decide to go with provided you are consistent.

Always keep in mind your intended audience when adding text. For example, the word ‘Ketchup’ is a common word in America but someone in South Africa won’t know what that is because they call it ‘Tomato Sauce’. There are hundreds of words and phrases we take for granted that either mean something completely different to someone from another part of the world or has no meaning at all.

Also, some words or phrases are considered vulgar in some cultures but not in others. Be aware of your audience.

Similarly, keep in mind the intended age of your audience. Very few teenagers would be likely to know what “baby-boomer generation” means.

SENTENCE STRUCTURE

Search engines are mathematical marvels that read the text on your site and combine it (not all of them) with your META TAGS. Some even integrate other HTML tags like the <H1>, <H2> <H3> tags. Have you ever wondered how when you search for something the Search engines actually find it?You have a website about boats. You want to say this”Buy our boats because they are the best in the West”Not a bad start. But you won’t get many point in search engine terms for your choice of words. a better way would be to be a little more verbose and use words that people will likely be typing into the search Engines. I don’t know much about boats, but something along the lines of the following would be better (assuming it was true of course)“Shipley boats are delivered by helicopter to your doorstep. Pre-fueled and ready for ocean faring adventure immediately. Manufactured from highest quality Titanium, extracted from mines deep in Siberia. Shipley boats assures you of a consistently high level of cruising comfort all year round.”Do you get the point? Here’s what the search engine “sees”:

“Shipley boats” – your company name, appears several times. Telling the engine it’s important,

You have used words like delivered, helicopter, pre-fueled ocean faring etc. All these words are potential terms someone using a search engine looking for boats may be using. Use them liberally, they will maximize your chances of being found.

DREADED DEAD LINKS

Dead links are mentioned in the introduction. However, they are so important we feel they warrant another mention. Avoid them at all costs! Dead links tell your visitor the following:

You are not really interested in the website [so why should s/he be?]

You don’t know what you are doing [so if you are selling something, why should s/he believe you?]

You never update your site [so he's reading old news]

There are tons of places you can go to check out the links on your site. A free one that we use you can download from here.

THE LOOK AND FEEL OF YOUR SITE

Someone once said: “Don’t reinvent the wheel!”This is just as true for websites. Unless you are sure you have a relatively sophisticated audience DON’T use different colors for links. DON’Tput stuff on pages where people won’t find it.A good rule of thumb: Go to the big Search engines – Google, MSN, Yahoo – and look at how they have laid out their pages. Look especially at the following:

The colors they use for text, hyperlinks etc.

The placement of the navigation links on their pages.

Bottom line – Everyone has been to Google or MSN or AltaVista. If your visitors are likely to be ‘Internet novices’ by all means make your site mimic these sites. This way, you will be sure your visitors will feel ‘at home’ on your site.

SPAM

Whatever you do, DON’T SPAM. Some people think Spamming is only when you send porn or Viagra adverts to someone by email. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Spamming is any unsolicited email. If you don’t have permission to send someone an email and you send an email it is SPAM. Plain and simple. If you get accused of spam, not only will your web-host close you down, you most likely will find it hard to find another hosting company willing to host your site. Don’t spam. It’s not worth it. Click here for more.Even worse, people will report you for spam to the many automated spam databases and that gets onto the search engines. Once that happens, you are pretty much black-listed. Don’t do it.

LOOK FOR CLUES ON OTHER SITES

Use the search engines and visit other websites with similar themes to yours to get ideas of what do do. Often, just navigating someone else’s site will give you a lot of inspiration.NOTE: Do NOT take images from someone else’s site or copy chunks of text to paste into your own. See that little Copyright © thingy at the bottom? That means “Copyright” … not “Copy-rite”. You can get yourself into a whole lot of trouble if you use text and/or images from someone else’s website without permission. Always ask. Most webmasters will be flattered and have no problem if you do.

IMAGES AND FLASH

Call me old fashioned if you want but I loath FLASH. It takes a whole lot of time to load, hogs precious bandwidth and doesn’t add anything to the site. Some people love it but many avoid Flash pages like the plague. If you do use it, some people won’t go past your welcome page. (Obviously there are exceptions to this. For example, if you have a graphics design site, because people have come for the graphics. A Flash intro might ‘sell’ your abilities very well). If you have pictures, don’t have massive pages with zillions of big images. This is a sure turn off for any visitor. Thumbnail the images in something like a table and have hyperlinks to each image on a separate page. Also, Search Engines cannot read flash or Graphical images so even though your Flash may say a whole lot, it says a whole lot of nothing to the Search Engine.NOTE, it’s far more work to have the thumbnail images link link to HTML pages with the large images than to just link to the images directly but there is a payoff if you use the longer method: If you put each image on a separate HTML page, you can add Titles, text and META TAGS to the HTML pages. You can’t to this if you are simply linking to an image file. This gives you more credibility with the search engines and therefore a higher ranking. If you select your META TAGS carefully, you can achieve hugely improved search engine results.

JAVA/JAVASCRIPT & AJAX

Many webmasters love Java scripts. It is true you can do a lot with Java and make some really interesting pages. BUT there are some things you need to be aware of:

Many Internet surfers disable JavaScript in their Browsers. Some intentionally, some because they don’t know. The reasons aren’t very important but the fact is around 22% of all people surfing the Internet have JavaScript disabled for one or other reason.

Different Browsers (Netscape, MSIE, Opera etc) need slightly different Java commands or they give errors. If your pages only work with Microsoft Browsers of a specific version you automatically exclude all the others. This makes for a direct reduction in your traffic to your site.

Search Engines generally do not follow JavaScript Links. If you use them only link to pages that are not important for Search Engine placement.

If you must use JavaScript, make sure you test it on all the Browsers you can lay your hands on to be sure your visitors won’t get error messages which will surely make them click off your site.

BANNERS AND POP-UPS

Been to one of those sites where a zillion pop-ups suddenly jump at you as soon as the site opens? Every time you close one, another 5 appear? They are terrible! Don’t do it on your site. Nowadays all browsers block them by default so they are pretty useless anyway.Very few sites that employ this method of advertising get a lot of traffic simply because popup banners are so annoying.Bottom line – No one like popup advertising. Avoid using them. The couple of $$ you will be paid by the company you advertise just isn’t worth the loss of traffic. Don’t use them.

GET YOUR OWN DOMAIN NAME

Having your own domain name is very important for two reasons:

Many of the search engines will not list sites that are not ‘primary’ e.g. http://example.com

A domain name like http://example.com/thisdirecory/thatdirectory/index.htm hard to remember. If your visitor liked your page and wants to come back but did not bookmark you, s/he probably wont be able to find your site again.

We did an experiment some years ago to prove this. Here’s what we did:

We created two identical 2-page websites.

The one website we put up at geocities (free website). The other we put on it’s own domain.

We submitted both to exactly the same search engines.

The result?

After 6 months, the geocities page had 547 hits and the one that had it’s own domain had 5,200 – almost 10 times more! Having your own domain does make a big difference!

‘CHRISMAS’ TREE SITES

We call them ‘Christmas tree’ sites. You’ve seen them. The ones where the owner has found every possible banner, logo, Webring and award s/he could find and put them allon his/her site. They are absolutely ghastly! Don’t do it! It makes it look like:

You have nothing to say, so you filled your page with every bit of Internet junk you could find,

The site is so unpopular you have resorted to desperate measures to get traffic.

Banner Exchanges, Site Awards and the like all have their place. However, it is the experience of the author that they generally don’t provide what they promise – traffic. Most banner exchanges work on a 2:1 ratio. That is, for every 2 times someone else’s banner is displayed on your page, your banner will be displayed on someone else’s page. Now ask yourself this. When last did you click on a banner on someone else’s website? For most people the answer is either “a year ago” or “never”. Contrary to popular belief, banners Exchanges don’t generally work if you want to build a really prime site.

PUTTING DOWN YOUR COMPETITION

Although comparative advertising is acceptable in many parts of the world it is not necessarily the best way or even a good way to advertise your site. Consider the following a line advert on a web hosting site:”Don’t use xyz hosting because they give poor service and we give great service”Firstly, a comment like this is in poor taste and won’t help getting you new hosting customers. In fact, people are more likely to be put off by your callous remark about your competition. Not only that, “xyz hosting” – who may be 10 times bigger than your company and might just decide to reciprocate the favor by making a similar comment about you! Putting down your competition is never a smart way to get business. There are of course exceptions. For example, if you run a web hosting review site you could say something like this:”Many of our members have reported poor after sales service from xyz hosting”This is an entirely different ball game – as a web review site you are expected to write reviews about other web hosting companies. A negative comment about another company is acceptable because in this context it is regarded as information and not putting down.

Maybe you know about Amazon Marketplace. Maybe you’re already an Amazon Affiliate. But that’s just the start. Read on for more about both of these plus two more ways to make money with Amazon.com even if you’re not a best-selling author (yet).

1) Amazon Marketplace

Amazon Marketplace actually offers several ways to make money, but I’m going to lump them all together for the sake of simplicity. Basically, if you have an item to sell that’s being offered on Amazon, you can sell it there as well. Just list it alongside the main listing, offer it at a good price, and voila! You may have your first sale.

Of all the “make money online” strategies, selling your stuff on Amazon has got to be one of the simplest — and most foolproof systems. As long as you pick something where there is a demand, and you price it well and describe it accurately yet enticingly, you’re just about guaranteed to sell your item.

And best of all, until you sell it, you won’t pay a cent of listing fees. Only when you sell it will Amazon take out its share (which, admittedly is a sizeable chunk). But then they do the advertising, and you save lots of time since you don’t have to create the descriptions as you have to do on eBay.

2) Amazon Affiliate Program

You can also be an affiliate for Amazon. Basically, simply advertise Amazon products on your website or anywhere you like, and wait for people to buy stuff. Once they do, you’ll get a commission. It’s even easier than selling things on Amazon Marketplace.

3) Publish your information products on Kindle

If you are the author of electronic information products of any kind, you can publish them for Kindle. It’s not hard, and you can have your products listed on Amazon practically in no time at all.

How much will you sell? It depends. However, selling your products is the least of your benefits. Being listed on Amazon gets you found on Google and will help with establishing yourself as an authority.

4) Publish physical books through Amazon’s CreateSpace.com program

Finally, there is also the option of publishing your physical books on Amazon.com. Through its publishing arm CreateSpace, Amazon now makes it possible to publish — and sell — your very own physical book, or even your CD, DVD, and more. Not only will this help you with making money on Amazon, but it will help increase your visibility and authority as well!

If you’ve been around affiliate marketing any time at all, then most of you know that Web Hosting Affiliate Programs pay some of the top commissions in the industry. What many of you don’t know is that Credit Card Affiliate Programs pay a lot more than Web Hosting Affiliate Programs in most cases.

While most web host will pay you between $25 and $100 per sign up, there are many Credit Card affiliate programs that will pay you $50 to $300 per sign up. Some of these affiliate programs will pay you every time someone fills out a credit card application while others just pay you whenever someonen you refer qualifies for a credit card.

Why Credit Card Affiliate Programs Can Be More Lucrative Than Web Hosting Affiliate Programs

Well, it’s simple really. How many people do you know need Web Hosting? Now how many people do you know need a Credit Card? Yeah, now you’re seeing the potential.

While you may have a hard time getting people to sign up under your webhosting affiliate program, simply because most people don’t need it, most credit card programs work well simply because you’ll be steering people to the sign up page with your affiliate link. Most of these programs have multiple cards to choose from, so if your Customer has bad credit, no problem, there’s a card for that. Do the want a credit card with reward points? No problem, most programs have those cards available. Have someone who wants a credit card with balance transfer? You guessed it, most programs have cards available for that also.

If you choose a Credit Card affiliate program that pays you per applications filled out, (which they pay around $2 to $5 per application), you may find that you can get more people filling out CC applications than are approved for the Cards. It just depends on what type of traffic you’re targeting.

Once you realize that it’s quite easy to steer people through your affiliate link, you start to realize the potential available to you to make money with these programs. In many cases, it’s as easy as putting your affiliate links where people who need credit cards will find them.

How To Get Started Making Money With Credit Card Affiliate Programs

There are a lot of credit card affiliate programs out there today. Due to the credit crisis we’ve fast over the last year or so, the number of credit card companies using affiliate programs has declined, but there are still plenty of others out there to make this a profitable venture.

One program that Beginners can get started in the Credit Card Affiliate business with is My Credit Card Cash. When you sign up with them, they give you a website already pre-populated with nearly 100 card offers. All that you must due is to promote your affiliate website url. Since they’ve already made the site for you, there’s no site building or other technical knowledge required.

Then, each time someone goes through your website and is approved for a credit card, you earn a commission. Some of these cards have a payout as much as $121. Most are in the $30 to $75 range. It doesn’t take long to see that there is a lot of potential here.

As of this writing, they’re offering a 14 day trial for $1. After that, they’ll charge you $37 per month until 4 people have been approved for credit cards through your website, then it’s free. I was able to get 4 sign ups easily within the 14 day trial so my website was free. Click here to learn more about this program.

Most of these types of programs will charge a fee until you have a certain number of sign ups through your website. This is in part to keep people from signing up for their affiliate program and then doing nothing. They only want Affiliate Marketers who will be promoting their affiliate sites. This is why most will give you the website after you’ve signed up a certain number of people that are approved for a credit card.

Ways To Promot Your Own Credit Card Website

The nice thing that I like with credit card affiliate programs is that offline promotion is very effective. Once I had my website, I went and had some free business cards made up. The first batch simply said “Bad Credit? Need A Credit Card?” across the middle of the business card in bold print. Below that my Website url. I had 500 business cards made up the first time and left these everywhere I went. Grocery stores, drive-in’s, bulletin boards around various businesses (especially cafe’s) and so on. This is how I managed to get 7 sign-ups within my 14 day trial.

And that’s the trick to making credit card affiliate programs pay off, just as with any affiliate program, get your affiliate link in front people who want what you have to offer.

You could try having some free biz cards made up with your affiliate URL on them and then leaving them every place around your town. Laundry Mats, C Stores, Cafe’s…a lot of these places have community bulletin boards and would be worth a try.

Although I haven’t tried it yet, a Classified Ad in small Local and Regional newspapers may also do just as good. In my area, I could take out one ad and have it placed in 8 different local community newspapers for about $90 per month.

Ways To Promote Your Credit Card Website Online

Now that I’ve showed you a few effective ways to market you credit card affiliate website offline, let me show you a few ways to do it online.

Basically, the way I started out marketing my own credit card affiliate website was the same method I used in the January $2500 Challenge. I signed up in several forums and answered questions about debt, finance, family related questions and questions about credit cards. My signature had a link to my site in it. In some post, where it was relevant, I left a link to my site.

I also promoted my affiliate website on Yahoo Answers and Wiki’s whenever I answered a question and where a link made sense and was helpful. If you go in and start throwing links all over the place, you’ll be banned in no time flat for spamming, as you should be.

Another good way to promote your affiliate link is through article marketing as well as building a network of sites over family and personal finance. Although this will take a while, once you have the traffic coming in, this could be a very good money earner.

And that’s how I make money with Credit Card Affiliate Programs. I did it for a while and once you get your system down, I think you’ll find that this is a pretty good way to earn income. I find it a lot easier than promoting some other affiliate programs, but everyone is different. You may find it more difficult or easier. If nothing else, sign up for a trial and give it a try to see if you’ll like it. You never know, you might have a big earner on your hands.

If you have been part of the Internet Marketing world for sometime now, you would know that any traffic-heavy website is an opportunity to make at least some decent cash. Facebook can be used for both personal use or business use. The opportunities with a traffic-heavy site like Facebook are endless. There are many ways you can approach Facebook and monetize it. Knowing that Facebook is a free social networking site that anyone can use, it sets many opportunities for many individuals to benefit from it both socially and financially depending on which way you approach it.

How to Make Money With Facebook

There are a variety of options you can take in pursuing your conquest of making money from Facebook. Both requiring some sort of skill or knowledge in order to make money off Facebook. Lets start off with the first option: making money from developing Facebook applications.

Developing Facebook Applications: If you are experienced in developing useful applications for the social networking site Facebook, consider it as a free opportunity to make some cash. The most biggest ever sold application from Facebook was the application Where I’ve Been that has been sold for $3,000,000. Consider this purchase a success story to many Facebook application developers out there wishing an opportunity like this is to come for them too. Not only has this purchase from the original developer (Craig Ulliott) changed his life financially, it inspired many developers that Facebook can actually indeed be a great place to showcase applications and collect viral attention like the application Where I’ve Been that was sold for 3 million dollars to TripAdvisor. What this purchase really demonstrated was that Facebook may actually be the real deal where experienced developers can be rewarded for their hard effort of making useful applications. Nowadays, you could find that many people are willing to hire experienced Facebook app makers to make a useful Facebook application in reminiscence to this deal in hopes of making it big.

Even if your objective is not to sell your Facebook application if you plan on creating one, you still can make some money from your application. However, it includes incorporating ads within your Facebook application. Ideally this method of making money is great for Facebook game developers because games generally have a higher click-through ratio.

Facebook Groups: The first thing that comes to mind probably when you are thinking about a Facebook group is a huge community. A huge community where Facebook users from anywhere around the world can socialize and share tips, ideas, and more right? If you learned some few things about Internet Marketing, if you learned anything at all, you should know that anything that involves a large community is an opportunity to make money. I’m not talking about puny groups that only have 100 or 1,000 members in it, I’m talking Facebook groups that have over 50,000 and sometimes even 1,000,000 members – the real deal. How is it is possible you say? It is not as hard as you may think.

In order to obtain a large group with more than tens of thousands of members, it takes a bit of patience and common knowledge. First off, you know that Facebook is a social networking site, which means you know people are on Facebook to socialize. Your first step is to use that knowledge to your advantage and attract socially active people with proper techniques such as:

making a group on the most recent hot buzz (e.g Pants on the Ground – original). It can grow tremendously quickly. For the group ‘Pants on the Ground’ you can see that it has grown to a massive 1.6 million member group. Just 7 days from the original make of the video.

making the group name fun and interesting that makes people want to click on it

making the group fun and edgy

having a clear theme on what the group is about

These are all the things you need to work on to get your group ready and running active. Everything else to get your group running in the initial stage of your Facebook group may require some background work to get your group pumped; such as inviting friends, running an advertising campaign to join your group, join similar groups and recruit, & etc. Once you have your group down and is beginning to grow periodic per day, that is a good sign. The idea of making money from Facebook groups is to accumulate enough interested readers on a specific topic and when it is the right time, use your power as the group administer to disclose sites of your own or related offers where you the affiliate can benefit financially. This technique of money making is sort of like blogging except you are given the resources on a traffic-heavy social networking site to accumulate a large community anytime, within a smaller time frame to make more money.

How to become an affiliate and earn compensation for your Facebook efforts? I recommend joining Commission Junction or ShareaSale.

For the most part, most Bloggers already have their own Facebook pages because large social networking sites like Facebook, can make a huge impact on sales. That is why many marketers try to follow the most up-to-date hot trends and try to relate to it. And whenever they get the chance, they act because it is free publicity you know? Who would pass on free publicity right?

This is about how to make easy money quickly).

1. Make easy money online naming domains. The original idea comes from Dane Carson’s blog. While you can earn money as a contributor for services such as PickyDomains.Com, here is a better idea. Go to Google or any other search engine, find sucky domain names and contact their owners directly, offering them your services. The key to success is to make it 100% risk free. Inform your prospective clients that you’ll accept money only if they like your domain name. If you come up with one approved domain name a day and charge what PickyDomain charges, you can make $1500 a month. Another twist – come up with cool domain names, like SiteToRemember.Com or ItsMe.Com, register them yourself and sell them on the aftermarket.

2. eBay arbitrage. A lot of people like buying stuff on eBay, because it’s cheap. And some people never buy on eBay, because they are afraid of being ripped off. Here is your solution to making easy money on eBay. Go to Craigslist.Com and see what items people buy and sell most often. Look at prices. Then go to eBay and see, if you can get it cheaper. Once you find your niche, you can buy things on eBay (or better yet, act as a representative for an eBay powerseller) and sell them for a profit using local classifieds and Craigslist. You can do this online as well. Set up a proxy store, and when you get an order, simply buy the same item on eBay for less, substituting shipping address from your own to that of your buyer.

3. eBay copywriting. If you are good at copywriting, go to eBay and look for highticket items, like boats. Find auctions with totally sucky descriptions. Contact an owner and inform him or her that good description of his or her item is likely to increase the chances of that item being sold. Then offer your services for a 1% of the selling price. You can use free eBay software

4. Get Paid Writing Reviews. This idea comes from a blog called Business Ideas That Work. A site called SoftwareJudge.Com pays up to 50 dollars per good review. However, if you are good at reviewing software, you can do this on your own. Go to CNET or any other site that lists software. Find sites that don’t have any reviews or testimonials. Contact developers directly, offering them your review services. Good reviews and testimonials increases sales, so you shouldn’t have any difficulties convincing developers that they need your services. And you get free software and games too! Oh, and you don’t have to limit yourself to software alone.

5. Social Bookmark Whoring (oops, I meant to say PR). This is really easy money online. RedDit and Digg can bring a crapload of traffic. And traffic means money. If you have experience creating linkbate titles and getting to the top, why not offer your services? Say, you charge 10 dollars for submitting news to RedDit, Digg, StumbleUpon, Furl, NewsVine, Fark and all the other social bookmarting sites. The key is to work only with interesting stories, so you don’t become a spammer. 10 news a day and you are 100 dollars richer. You can probably work out a deal with online PR agencies, because they are totally clueless about this.

6. Writing Google AdWords Ads. Every time I see “Cake Icing. Used And New. eBay.Com” type ads or “Four best sites on killing your wife”, it makes me wonder. Aren’t there any GOOD AdWords ads copywriters? Look’s like a great job to me. The ads are only three lines long and if you charge 10 bucks per ad, you can make a lot of money. And the customers are easy to find, too. Just look at all these terrible ads that Google displays on their search engine and contextual network.

7. Wacky blogs. Steve Pavlina gets over 300 dollars a day from AdSense alone, writing on wacky topics, like polyphasic sleep, astral projection and psychic development. Or take David Icke, who claims that president Bush in an alien and a reptilian. Your blog doesn’t have to be true, it just has to be interesting.

8. Blog whoring. There are a number of services, like PayPerPost.Com, that pay for promotional blogposts. Once again, you can do the same thing, cutting the middleman out.

9. Unique Personal Ads. Write memorable personal ads for online daters. Most personal ads suck. “Hi, my name is Bambie, I’m a Vergo, I’m 19 and I love dogs.” Here is my favorite personal ad. If people pay for resume writing, they might pay for a great personal ad.

10. Poet For Hire. This is nothing new. Still, if you love writing poetry, why not make some money with your rhymes.

11. Don’t EVEN THINK about majoring in English, Medieval Literature, Journalism or GET A REAL JOB, IF YOU WERE DUMB ENOUGH TO DO SO. Just kidding. If you love writing, just write, and the money will follow.

The other day I was watching a home improvement show on cable. The remodeler was installing a new deck, with an awesome built-in grill. I could practically taste the burgers and barbecue already.

But then he said something like, “Backyard parties and dinners from the grill won’t happen unless you begin building your deck with the right tools.”

The right tools… that’s what my grandfather always said when I was growing up.

It didn’t matter if I was making a soap box derby car, a napkin holder for a mother’s day present, or helping him install a new roof on our house. If he caught me trying to slide by with a tool that wasn’t right for the job he made me hustle and get the right one.

Usually these tools were very inexpensive, yet when I used them they saved me a ton of time because I could
work so much faster. It’s like that in affiliate marketing too.

It doesn’t matter if you’re following the blueprints given to you in a $2000 course and have all the head knowledge in the world about affiliate marketing. If you don’t use the right tools it will take you
much longer to achieve your goals.

So here are a few tools that will save you time as an affiliate marketer:

* Using WordPress to create your blog. You do have a blog, right? I hope so, because a blog is one of the best ways to develop a following and build trust, which leads to increased sales. WordPress is the quickest way to set up a blog and a WordPress blog will show up in the search engines more quickly.

* Google Alerts and Google News. One of the fastest way to find ideas for content for your blog is to go to Google News and type in search terms for your niche. For example, I just typed “golf drives” into Google News. A story popped up about Tiger Woods and how he has maintained focus despite extra distractions this year. If I had a
blog in the golf niche this would be good material for a post about how to remain focused. You can also sign up to have Google Alerts send you an email with stories for certain phrases.

* WordPress plugins. From SEO to getting rid of spam comments, plugins are tools that will ensure that your blog operates at maximum efficiency.

Most of the above tools are free (some plugins have a small fee). All of them save you valuable time.

For one of the best “set it and forget it” tools for WordPress blogs, check out this plugin that will automatically insert Clickbank ads onto your blog:
WordPress ClickBank Plugin

This article was written by the owner of Blog Marketing

Shortcut to pragmatic knowledge in the sphere of one way links – please make sure to go through this webpage. The time has come when proper info is truly within one click, use this chance.

Pay per click (PPC) is by far one of the easiest and quickest methods of driving targeted, consistent traffic to your website. While this may seem like a daunting method of advertising for some, it’s actually quite easy and can end up becoming that one marketing method that you can’t live without.

What I’d like to do today is provide some tips and techniques that I personally use when creating and monitoring PPC ad’s.
Hopefully these tips will help you in your future marketing endeavors.

Experimenting With Different Search Engines

There are many PPC search engines, with some being better than others. The top two are Google and Yahoo, which was previously known as Overture. It’s a good idea to start your PPC campaigns with a small budget, spreading it out over a few different search engines to experiment and see where your target market may be lurking.

Generally speaking, I’ve found Google Adwords is better for more technically orientated products or services, including software, hardware, web design etc. Yahoo, on the other hand, is better for general consumer products, including insurance, toys, music etc.

What I wrote in the previous paragraph is very general, and you should analyze your campaigns carefully to see where they are performing their best. We’ll discuss this in detail a little later in the article.

Selecting the Right Keywords

The keyword selection process is probably the most important of all when it comes to creating your PPC ad’s. You’ll need to select keywords that are specific to your product or service offering, but you need to be careful not to select keywords that are extremely popular, as this may deplete your PPC funds sooner than expected.

The keyword selection process begins by asking yourself just one question:

“If I was searching for a product just like mine, which words or phrases would I search for?”

Using your answer(s) to this question as your base, you can then use a thesaurus and common sense to start building your keyword list with plurals, synonyms, similar words, etc.

To see which keywords your competitors are using, simply try searching for them. If you see a PPC ad along the side for your competitor, then note that keyword down and add it to your list.

Another way of coming up with great keywords is to use the overture search suggestion tool: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

Type in a set of keywords and it will list similar keywords, including the number of times that keyword has been searched for on Overture (Yahoo) in the last month!

There’s often a fine line between selecting keywords that are either too specific or keywords that are too general. Try to keep away from these, as they can often result in wasted CPC (Cost per click) funds.

A typical example of this would be an ad that I created recently for our latest product, TrackPoint, which — not coincidently — is an internet marketing return on investment (ROI) tracking tool. Although the product is heavily geared towards internet marketing, using such a broad term would have made it virtually impossible to compete with the other advertisers.

The term “internet marketing” is searched for 825,674 times per month on Overture alone. Combined with the huge number of different advertisers that target this keyword, the top bid for “internet marketing” on Google AdWords is $13.84 per click! With an average of 240 clicks per day, a single day of advertising alone would cost $505!

Now, unless you have an extremely high conversion rate of visitors to sales, or you’re selling a high priced item that usually has a high customer acquisition cost, I suggest targeting more specific keywords. Not only will this decrease your overall competition with other advertisers, but it will also increase the chances of turning your newly found web site visitors into customers.

Back to my earlier example, I chose to be specific with my keywords. One keyword was “ROI tracking”, which is searched for 1,828 times per month on Overture and has a much cheaper top bid. This keyword is also more targeted to the product I was marketing, meaning that a large percentage of people clicking on my ad should turn into customers.

It’s also helpful to note that taking the top bid is not always necessary, and anywhere in the top 5-10 can generate great leads. This really does come down to budget and analysis.

Attracting People to Your Ad

Now that we’ve selected our keywords, we need to get those searching to click on our ad, which in turn will result in them clicking through to our web site and potentially purchasing our product.

One of the simplest ways to get peoples attention is to use their search keywords in the title of your PPC ad. This has been proven to increase click-thru rates on ad’s by over 50%.

Why? Simple. If the potential customer is searching for “ROI Tracking” and the title of a PCP ad begins with “ROI Tracking”, then their attention will be grabbed instantly. He or she doesn’t need to know much else, other than that the PPC ad is catered specifically for him or her.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can sometimes create a more relevant title by combining your different keywords into one PPC ad. For example, I could have easily used something like “ROI Tracking PHP Script” as the title of my ad, which effectively would have decreased my click-thru rate, but definitely caters my ad more to a specific audience. Once again, this comes down to analysis and adjustment.

Another important technique to attract attention to your ad is to differentiate yourself from your competitors. In our particular case, the majority of our competition offer hosted solutions, whereby they manage the software on their servers in return for monthly or per traffic fees.

Our product caters to a different audience, those that want more control over their software, as well as those not wanting to pay monthly fees. So, in this example, I would make the title of my ad “Pay no monthly or per traffic fees”.

Next — and this is where experimentation is extremely important — we need to create a description for our PPC ad that will attract the potential customer and let them know that our product is exactly what they are searching for. To do this, I start my ad’s description with “Track PPC, campaigns & search”.

Finally, it’s good practice to add a “Call to action” at the bottom of your ad. If you’re not familiar with this term, its usually an instruction to tell the person to do something, such as “Click here to view a demo”, “Download Now”, etc.

Marketing experts seem to agree that the average human needs to be prompted to click on an ad or take action, so we’ll add this line to the end of our PPC ad’s description:

“Track PPC, campaigns & search. Try demo!”

Reducing Click-Thru’s

Sometimes it’s important to reduce the number of clicks your PPC ad is receiving. This could be because you are attracting people who are only after free products/services, or even the wrong target market.

The two quickest ways to reduce click-thru’s are to make the description of your ad more targeted and to add the price of the product to the ad.

Making the description more targeted (as I’ve discussed above) can reduce your overall click-thru rate, but potentially increase the likelihood of a click resulting in a purchase.

In my earlier example, by adding the words “PHP script” to the description, we are effectively filtering out those looking for a hosted solution, downloadable software or even those with a server that isn’t capable of running PHP scripts.

We also increase the targeting of our ad because we now know that the majority of those clicking on the ad are looking for a PHP script, which is exactly what our product is.

Secondly, by adding the price of the product you are selling to the end of the ad, you instantly eliminate those looking for free products, and target those willing to purchase your product or service.

Tracking Your Clicks and Conversions

The fundamental core of a successful advertising campaign — whether it be a PPC ad, banner ad or even newspaper ad — is knowing whether or not your ad’s are actually converting into sales or not.If your ads aren’t making you money then you’re more that likely better off saving your advertising dollars and adjusting your ad’s or using your marketing budget elsewhere in your company.

Both Google and Overture have built in tracking and conversion tools that you can use to get a holistic view of your current PCP ad campaigns. You can even use external tools which let you add conversion code to your website to tell you exactly which of your ad’s are converting into sales and which aren’t. This is often referred to as knowing your ROI or Return on Investment.

We need to know exactly how much money we are making per dollar spent on every PPC ad. If the ROI is positive and we are making more money than we are spending, then the ad is working and we can use this knowledge to further improve our other ad’s or increase ad spending for that particular ad/set of keywords.

If, however, our ad’s are costing us more than they are returning, then we can reduce our spend, change our approach, or remove these ad’s altogether. It’s a rather simple formula, but frustratingly ignored by many advertisers.

You must track your ad’s if you want to succeed with any form of Internet advertising. You should also constantly monitor and adjust your ad’s according to how they are performing, your return on investment, etc.

Conclusion

Hopefully I’ve provided you with a clear insight into PPC advertising and techniques that you can use to improve your advertising campaigns. It pays — pun intended — to do your research and understand your target market, because the rewards can sometimes be much more than you expected.

Introduction

Running Google AdSense on your article website is a quick and easy way to generate revenue for your writing efforts. We’ve been using Google AdSense on many sites running our article manager, ArticleLive, both for testing and for real life revenue generation. We found after some testing and research that there were various techniques we could implement to optimize our AdSense ad’s and increase revenue. Today I’m going to share some of my favorite strategies.

Direct from the horses mouth (move this to the beginning)

My first suggestion is to read Googles list of tips and tricks for optimizing Google AdSense:
https://www.google.com/AdSense/support/bin/static.py?page=tips.html

If you’re running a forum, here’s a quick list of tips direct from Google:
http://AdSense.blogspot.com/2005/10/six-AdSense-optimization-tips-for.html

Positioning

First and foremost, where you place your ad’s makes a huge direct difference in visibility of the ad, and therefore increases your chance of getting clicks. While some people stress that your ad’s should be highly visible upon first visit, i.e. top of the page, in some cases having your ad’s placed at the END of your article can actually increase click thru’s. Let’s say our article is a review of a specific digital camera, the Cannon IXUS 800 IS. (Incidentally, I love this camera and lost mine overseas).

When a user visits my site to read my review he or she is most likely going to read the article before clicking on any ad’s. It’s the reason they came to my site in the first place. By positioning my ad’s directly after my article on the same page I know my visitor has finished reading my article and may be ready to take action. An ad that offers a cheap price for the same camera I’m reviewing is now highly likely to get clicked on, especially if my review has been a positive one.

Try various ad placements. Tweak and test until you find something that works for you.

Look and Feel

Your AdSense ad’s should blend into the look and feel of your web site. Make suer you use the same font type, size and color so advertisements don’t look like ad’s. On the other hand, sometimes visitors become ad blind so you need them to stand out. Again, test, test, test.

As I mentioned above, if you place your ad’s at the end of the article there’s a good chance your visitor will click on them. Keeping their style consistent with the rest of your page will make them appear as normal links, and therefore your visitors wont get scared off and think that the only reason you wrote the article is so they click on the ad.

Increase Relevancy

Google uses what we call robots to scan your web page to locate the best ad’s to serve. If Google does a poor job of recognizing your articles topic then the ad’s it displays will not be highly relevant. Improving the relevance of the ad’s displays means improving the probability that your readers will find interest in an advertisement and click on it.

There are a few things you should do to increase relevance. Firstly, use descriptive headings and try to be specific. For example, if you’re writing a review about a Canon IXS 800 Digital Camera, then your title should look something like: “Canon IXS 800 Digital Camera Review”. As obvious as it seems, some people tend to forget this and use less relevant headings such as IXS 800 Review.

Be sure to include the topic of the article in the page title as well as adding a detailed meta description and meta keywords. Keep them as focused as possible, using similar keywords found throughout your web page. Adding alt tags to your images can also help. For example, an image of the camera could have an alt tag of: “Canon IXS 800 Digital Camera Picture” and you could even add a descriptive caption to the image.

Cater to Niche Topics

Targeting niche topics instead of general ones will result in two distinct benefits. First, your natural search engine competition is reduced dramatically. You get more targeted visitors interested in your niche topic, who will be shown more relevant ad’s, resulting in higher click rates.

Let’s take our digital camera website as an example. If I was to write a generic article about digital cameras I’d be competing with thousands if not millions of competitors. My Google Ad’s would be generic and the chance that my visitors will click on these ad’s is significantly reduced. On the other hand, however, by catering to a specific, targeted topic, I decrease my natural search competition, I increase my relevance both with visitors and ad’s and increase the likelihood of an ad click.

Use Correct File Names

The file name used for your web page is extremely important to Google AdSense and the ad’s that it shows. Using a simple test on my desktop PC, I created 2 blank HTML files with different names and added the Google AdSense code, nothing else. The first one, playstation-games.html showed these ad’s:

digital-cameras.html showed these ad’s:

There was absolutely no other content in those files and the files were located on my desktop, so Google could not scan my web page for content.

Filtering Non Relevant Ad’s

With all the technical prowess of the Google robots, they can get it wrong. If your site is displaying totally irrelevant ad’s in relation to your websites content then there’s something wrong with your site. It could be that the robots are having a hard time crawling the site, or maybe the way your web page has been coded makes it hard for the robots to tell what topic the page is about. If the majority of the time, however, the ad’s are relevant but some irrelevant ones are still showing, then its time to start filtering.

By monitoring the ad’s on your site you can take a list of the domains of URL’s that don’t match the topic you are targeting, then, inside your Google AdSense account you can add this list of domains to your “Competition Filter”. By doing so, Google will stop showing ad’s from those domains.

Rotating Colors

Sometimes regular visitors to websites become accustomed to ad’s and their brain filters them out. We call this ad blindness. If you know your site gets a lot of repeat visitors you could test automatically rotating color schemes for your ad’s.

Color rotation is supported by Google and lets AdSense automatically rotate through 4 different color variations of ad’s so your ad’s have a higher chance of being noticed by repeat visitors.

https://www.google.com/AdSense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=9981&topic=156

Add More Content

The more content you have on your website, the more ad’s you can display. Having more content also means more pages listed in search engines and more pages for your visitors to browse through, meaning more website traffic. The more ad’s you can display, the higher the chance of a click thru.

Testing

You should constantly test and tweak your website for better ad revenue and click thrus. By comparing different ad types for different periods or on different pages you can determine which ad’s work better for your site. In saying this however, it’s best to test for a short period of time, optimize and move on. Spend your time creating rich, valuable content rather than optimizing for better click thrus. In the long term, great content always wins in generating more traffic to your site, which in turn generates more click thrus to the ad’s and puts more money in your pocket.

Conclusion

There are plenty of other ways to optimize your ad’s and I’ll be writing about them in future tutorials. For now though, use what I’ve taught you in this article to better position your ad’s, testing placement, colors and ad sizes. You never know which little tweak might result in an increase of clicks.
